Most GBA cores boot without a BIOS. gba_bios.bin is optional and fixes a few intro glitches. The game still needs to be a dump of a cartridge you own.
Djinn are the inventory. The in-game save is the only record of who is carrying them. A state from chapter one will not know about a later trade.
In RetroApp, add the dump to your library and rescan. Covers and the session list attach to the entry. Save states, rewind, and fast-forward are covered in the save state guide. BIOS rules for every console are in the BIOS guide.
